Often times, soon-to-be-wed couples are on the lookout for affordable yet elegant venues for their wedding banquets. Let’s be honest, not every couple has sufficiently deep pockets to afford a reception at a five-star property. So they look at other options, be it restaurants, community halls or other more affordable hotels.

When considering if a venue suits your requirements, the following criteria should be taken into account :

• Size and capacity in terms of number of guests it can accommodate, either for a sit-down meal or a buffet.
• Menu prices and variety from which to choose.
• The peripherals that come with the package such as backdrop, AV equipment, décor, flowers and the like.
• Professionalism and experience of catering staff.
• Location and easy accessibility.
• Availability of sufficient parking space.

A good venue would be able to :

• Respond promptly to your enquiries.
• Customise menus to fit a reasonable budget.
• Offer you suggestions on external vendors should you wish to dress-up the ballroom more.
• Negotiate corkage should you decide to bring your own hard liquor.
• Provide a food-tasting session prior to the wedding.
• Accept your deposit and secure the venue for you once you have made a decision.
