The Pearl of the Orient has long been a favourite destination for affordable holidays and a haunt for foodies looking to indulge in the gastronomic offerings that the island is famed for. The pleasant commute via the North-South Expressway (during non-festive periods that is!) and more recently the advent of low-cost air travel have made Penang more accessible than ever.

Not surprisingly, many couples are now 'getting hitched' along Batu Ferringhi. For couples so inclined, hiring a Penang-based wedding planner to oversee preparations for this meaningful occasion may not be a bad idea. A locally-based event specialist who is 'piped into' the wedding scene will undoubtedly be able to take care of the logistics of planning a wedding in Penang with aplomb.

Couples will benefit from reduced stress levels and anxiety one might expect from having to plan a wedding, by appointing a trusted, full-service wedding planner who can shoulder some of the responsibility. These include :

  • Conceptualising ideas based on the couple's ideas and budget.

  • Negotiating on behalf of the couple where necessary.

  • Working closely with and coordinating the various service providers required to pull-off a memorable wedding.

  • Sourcing for appropriate and available venues.

  • Keeping a firm grip on budgets and expenditure.

  • Prompting the couple when decisions need to be made.

  • Attending to little tasks and details, being meticulous at all times.

  • Ensuring that the big day goes according to plan and as smoothly as possible.

Before settling on a wedding planner however, do ensure that you have taken note of the following tips :
  • Do a background check on the wedding planner and their track record.

  • Have they done weddings are your preferred venue?

  • Discuss, confirm and put in writing the tasks and responsibilities of the wedding planner.

  • Does the planner have similar tastes as yours?

Once you have made a decision, then :

  • Be flexible when planning a wedding from afar.

  • Trust your planner and rely on his or her judgement.

Tip : It is always a good idea to have a wedding planner on-site.
