A Considered Decision

Whilst many would not deny that the service wedding planners offer can very much reduce the stress levels experienced by both the bride and groom, two questions that are often asked are "What is the cost?" and "Is it worth it?". Sure, it will eat into part of your budget but in return you get some measure of peace-of-mind. Although we can't make this decision for you, we can share some thoughts on how a wedding planner can be an integral part of your planning process.

First and foremost, most wedding planners would already have surveyed the market, identified and even shortlisted some of the more professional service providers. This saves you the hassle of having to make these initial fact-finding visits. Good wedding planners would also have on hand service providers that cater to varying budgets. In this sense, they would be able to match your requirements to service providers who will most likely be able to offer the best possible fit. Some planners even go as far as monitoring your expenditure vis-à-vis budget, prompting you 'back to reality' if the spending gets out of hand.

Whether the vision of an ideal wedding is one of pomp and pageantry, an intimate celebration perhaps or one that includes imaginative touches that require attention to detail, the job of a wedding planner is to turn these idealistic visions into reality.

In short, they help you keep your feet firmly planted on the ground. You are paying for their expertise and experience, and hence, should heed their advice and recommendations. Having organised numerous weddings, they are adept at providing you with a variety of options, ensuring that every angle is covered in order for you to make the best decision possible. They will also make certain that you adhere to deadlines, look into the nitty-gritty of obtaining quotations, follow up and check on progress with wedding vendors, basically relieving you of the many little tasks which otherwise you would have to take care of on your own.

Perhaps one of the most important roles a wedding planner can play is that of mediator. Our Asian upbringing often means that immediate family members, parents in particular, will want to have a say in the wedding preparations. And at times, situations can become very heated, resulting in 'minor standoffs' between the bride and groom and their family members. This is where a seasoned wedding planner can come to the rescue. An objective perspective, tact and the offer of a list of possible proposals and solutions will no doubt lead to an amicable compromise which every party involved will be happy with. In effect, they can be a source of comfort and a shoulder to cry on when the necessity arises.

Best of all is the realisation that on your wedding day, everything from transportation to family portraits would be taken care of, in the safe hands of an experienced wedding practitioner. All you need to do then is to soak in the atmosphere, enjoy the proceedings and have a jolly good time on what will possibly be the most memorable day of your life.

Tip : It is best to appoint a wedding planner right from the onset. If however you decide otherwise but run into problems halfway through the planning process, it is never too late to still approach one for assistance.
