When
It's All About Being Romantic, Cosy And Fun... |

"Our love, like the sea,
Stretches in everlasting manner,
Surrounds all lands,
Like our lives, as the tide ebbs and flows,
As the sun sets and rises,
Like our touch, as the waves caress the shore,
Tingling all senses,
For the beauty and serenity,
There is always thanks to give."

| A beach
wedding can be a very romantic affair. Just imagine
the beautiful sound of the waves as they break
gently on the shores while you exchange your wedding
vows. It is definitely possible - without burning
a big fat hole in your pocket. If indeed, a holiday
wedding by the beach is what you're looking for,
there are a few key things you will need to consider
: |
| |
| 1.
How many guests do I intend to invite? And who
pays for their holiday? |
| This
certainly does affect the budget. Sometimes, it
is rather difficult to keep the guest list short.
But do ask yourself these questions. Who are the
people I want to celebrate this occasion with
the most? Who are the people who would most enjoy
this celebration? Who are those who can most likely
make the trip? Note that a cosy party makes for
better sharing during your precious moments. A
group of 30 is just nice enough a number to ensure
your guests do not feel left out. With regards
to who pays for the holiday - seeing as you are
making the invitation, be prepared to fork out
at least RM300 - RM500 per person depending on
venue and menu selected. Alternatively, you could
ask your guests to bear their respective costs
in lieu of gifts or angpow. |

2. Which
beach or island resort do I choose?
|
| This
can be a rather tough decision as we are spoilt
for choice here in Malaysia. You need to think
of the timing as seasonal factors may come into
play. Would it be the monsoon season? If so, what
are the alternatives when it rains on the wedding
day? Does the venue have an indoor area that has
a sea view? Another important point to consider
is budget? Are you fussy about the food served?
Have your wedding planner give you a few options
with menu in place. This would give you a clearer
idea of what to expect. |

3. How
do we get there?
|
| Although
our country is extremely well connected, it is
nevertheless important to consider the logistics
when it comes to transportation. Most guests would
likely opt to make their own way there. As such,
be sure to include directions, check-in and check-out
times, and any other additional transport requirements
in your invitation card! A chartered bus can seat
up to 40 persons and can be arranged for between
RM1,800 - RM2,000. You just need to work out the
pick-up point and time to make sure everything
runs smoothly. Also, ensure that arrangements
have been made in transporting your wedding trousseau
and other necessities such as favors, flowers,
décor items and so forth. |

4. What
flowers do I use?
|
| Flowers
that blend in would be orchids. They also last
longer. A loosely tied bunch of orchids would
be the ideal bouquet for the bride. And if you
want to try something unusual, why not have a
Hawaiian lei for the groom? Centrepieces for the
reception tables should be somewhat structured
with candles safely inside a glass container due
to the wind. Alternatively, seashells and candles
in a fish bowl will complement the surroundings
as well. |

5. What
about my gown? The suit for my fiancé? And make-up?
|
| The
main thing to consider when you are choosing your
wedding attire, whether it is for the bride or
the groom, is the humidity at the beach. Your
attire can range from casual (think bikinis and
sarongs!) to a little bit more formal but with
light material in order to cope with the heat.
If you're renting a gown, seek advice from the
bridal studio. As for make-up and hair, a natural
and casual look will be the way to go. Have a
makeup case handy for quick touch-ups or negotiate
for your makeup artist to be present. Bring lots
of wet wipes and tissues to blot off perspiration.
Choose a hairstyle that is fuss-free. You will
be moving around a lot and perspiring. You can
have a ponytail adorned with fresh flowers or
a casual updo. Seashells can be put to good use
as well. Have them custom-made into earrings,
hair accessories or even anklets. |

How do I decorate such a vast space on the beach? |
| The
beautiful part of having a wedding by the sea
is that nature itself provides the best setting!
You can use seashells for table décor and coconut
leaves to embellish chair-backs for example. Remember
that by keeping things simple, it will be easier
to manage your budget. Also please be aware that
at some island resorts, taking home the sea shells
or corals are a strict no-no! If you're going
to borrow from Mother Nature for a little while,
make sure you return it. |
| |
|
If you love the sea and want to celebrate marital bliss
away from the hustle and bustle of the city, a beach
themed wedding holiday package is highly recommended.
After all, it is about being romantic, cosy and fun.
