Selecting A Floral Designer

When chosen carefully, flowers can create a mood and reflect the colour theme of your wedding. To pull this off, it is essential that you enlist the services of a creative and reputable floral designer. There are many in the market, each with their own unique flair. The more creative ones will often have a signature style, with a penchant for certain types of floral combinations. Some lean towards classicism while others offer a more contemporary and even avant-garde styles. The designer whom you ultimately choose will be one whose creations and previous track record catch your eye.

Perhaps the first step towards putting together a shortlist of potential florists would be to seek the recommendation of friends. There is no better means of advertising than word-of-mouth recommendations of satisfied clients. One can also visit the numerous wedding fairs held in hotels and at shopping malls. With a shortlist in hand, it is then necessary to call on each of the floral designers at their showrooms, for a more personalised and in-depth discussion. This is the opportunity to view some of their work up close, get a feel of their personalities and work ethic as well as broach the subject of budgets. It is good to be upfront about budgets as the florist would then be able to provide you with a rough idea of the types of flowers and arrangements they can supply.

On the creative front, you should bring along sheets torn from magazines, fabric swatches from your wedding gown and bridesmaid dresses, photos of the wedding venue and banquet hall, basically, ideas which you have taken a liking to and which can be inspiration for the floral designer. Listen to their suggestions and give them as much scope as possible. It will also be an appropriate time to ask to see pictures of their work for other clients. Better still, why not make it a point to see them at work decorating a church or hotel ballroom perhaps.

Once you have had a chance to make comparisons between those shortlisted, make a quick decision and stick to it. Be sure to confirm terms and conditions of the appointment, in particular payment details. And then leave the rest to and place your trust in the florist whom you have chosen.

Tip : Continually share your ideas, preferences, likes and dislikes with your florist in the months leading up to the big day. The more information he or she has, the better equipped he or she will be in designing your desired floral creations.
