Saying 'I Do' in Penang

Penangites planning to tie-the-knot really have the best of both worlds. In fact they are often the envy of many cityfolk in the Klang Valley. Whilst the majority of those in the Klang Valley and inland cities only have city hotels as options for wedding venues, those in Penang have the opportunity to celebrate their union either at the beach or in the city. In fact, some even combine both.

Batu Feringgi has long been a favourite for locals as well as couples who flock there from other parts of the country, foreigners too for that matter. A variety of resorts, offering mid to higher priced wedding packages make it a choice destination for many. The wedding ceremony, often held against the backdrop of a setting sun, is made for postcard-perfect photography. The landscaped grounds of the resorts and the famed stretch of sand make such settings even more alluring.

No sooner has the wedding ceremony been conducted, all thoughts would turn to the banquet. Those who choose to have their ceremony by the sea will often adjourn to the resort's ballroom for the wedding dinner. Those who said 'I Do' either at a church, mosque or temple in the city meanwhile, may decide to host the banquet at a city hotel. Again, choices are varied, with hotels offering packages that cater to most budgets.

One thing is for sure though, with the continued evolvement of Penang as a destination wedding venue, hotels and resorts will have to be even more innovative and creative in designing the 'dream wedding' for their guests.

Tip : If living in other states, couples should make it a point to visit Penang and do a recce sometime during the planning process to avoid any 'last-minute not-so-nice' surprises.
