Choices And Costs

Dec 01, 2019

For brides-to-be, the choices are aplenty when it comes to their bridal gown. Be it made-to-measure or off-the-rack, bridal salons and gown designers offer a number of options, whether for purchase or for rent. The route to take will boil down to the bride-to-be’s preferences and the budget that she has in mind.

The following are a given :

  • If budget is tight, then renting off-the-rack gowns would be best. However do note that these gowns may have been worn by others before and while alterations are possible, the fit may not be perfect.
  • Some designers offer a custom-made for rent option, where the gown is designed specifically for you on a rental basis i.e. the gown can be returned after your wedding.
  • For those who wish to have a unique gown specially tailored as a keepsake, the choice is obvious then; having one custom designed with your input for keeps.

Consider the following too :

  • Silhouettes and the body types they flatter or otherwise.
  • Fabric choices and whether they provide fluidity or a structured look.
  • The amount of handwork i.e. applique or beading required and its inherent investment.
  • Ivory or white?
  • The formality of the design in relation to the style of your wedding.

A few pointers :

  • Take into account the lead time required for alterations and/or custom designs.
  • Look out for sample sales if you are working on a limited budget.
